There is no shortage of attractions in the area of Karpacz and Sosnówka. One of them is Kopa, a mountain peak in the Karkonosze Mountains on Równia between Śnieżka and Owl Przełęcz. The height of the Kopa peak (also known as Czarna Kopa, Mała Kopa, Kleine Koppe), according to the measurement point located under the peak, is 1,377 m above sea level. Where is Kopa Peak located?
The Kopa mountain peak is located at the eastern end of the so-called the Silesian Ridge in the Western Sudetes in the Karkonosze range, along which the Polish-Czech border runs.
What rocks is the Kopa peak made of?
Kopa is made of Karkonosze granite, a rock consisting of several varieties of granite: central porphyry, ridge equigranular and granophyric. This type of rock was formed during the Variscan Orogeny in the Late Carboniferous, which means it is approximately 300-330 million years old. It is characterized by a clear punch in three perpendicular planes. It is very decorative. This is because it contains large grains of visually attractive stones. We will see here both pink and white feldspars with borders, as well as black biotite and gray quartz.
What attractions is Kopa Peak located near?
Kopa is the highlight of the ski complex Karpacz Ski Arena. This is where the ski slopes start. Kopa is about 2.5 km from Śnieżka, which is about an hour's walk.
How to quickly reach the Kopa peak?
You can take another chairlift "Zbyszek" (Urban Cable Railway) to the Kopa peak from Karpacz, or more precisely from Biały Jar in Karpacz Górny. Entry takes exactly 7 minutes. The cable car will transport us comfortably on single chairs. The length of the entire route is 2,229 m.
The cable car was launched in April 2018 in place of the old cable car that had been operating since 1959. It is also the easiest way to reach Śnieżka from the Polish side. That's why the cable car is often incorrectly called the "Śnieżka lift". In winter, the cable car is the basis for the operation of the Kopa-Złotówka ski resort.

The following trails pass through Kopa: blue from "Dom Śląski" to "Skalny Stoł", red from Śnieżka to Sowa Przełęcz, and a particularly recommended black trail - from Karpacz.
What will we see on the way from the summit to the shelter?
You can go to the "Dom Śląski" shelter from Kopa along the black trail. This short section, approximately 1 km long, runs along the ridge of the Łomniczki Valley, which provides wonderful views of the bottom of the valley, the Kowarski Ridge, Śnieżka and the Jelenia Góra Valley. The vegetation in this place consists mainly of mountain pine, grasses and short spruces.
What shelter is near the Kopa peak?
There is a tourist shelter called "Dom Śląski" near the Kopa peak. This shelter near Kopą is undoubtedly one of the most attractive places in the Karkonosze Mountains. It certainly has its own unique atmosphere. It is located at an altitude of approximately 1,400 m above sea level, at the junction of the main tourist trails and only a 5-minute ski ride to the upper station of the cable car to Kopa and the Karpacz Ski Arena ski complex. The "Dom Śląski" shelter is a two-story building of a higher standard, where you can find 57 beds, including one room for 13 people. There is a restaurant bar on site offering hot and cold home-made dishes, drinks, home-made sweets and cakes. In the summer season, guests can also use the terrace with a barbecue.
Where else can you stay overnight during the hike to the Kopa peak?
Near the Kopa peak, but on the Czech side, there is also the "Jelenka" shelter. This shelter under Kopą is a newly renovated tourist cottage open to tourists all year round. There is a cozy restaurant on site, serving hot and cold dishes and draft beer. The shelter offers 5 rooms that can accommodate 26 people.
What practical tips should you take into account during a trip to Kopa Peak?
We can get to Kopa in two ways; on foot or by cable car Karpacz – Kopa. We recommend the hiking route to more experienced people and to those who plan to spend the night in one of the nearby mountain shelters. For others, we recommend taking the cable car.
You can get to the lower station of the ski lift to Kopa on foot from Karpacz, by public transport or by your own car, which you can leave at one of the many parking lots located near the lower station of the ski lift. Public parking is free and nearby private parking lots are charged.
