Zloty Stok Gold Mine

The Złoty Stok Gold Mine is a former gold and arsenic mine open to the public. It is located in Złoty Stok in Lower Silesia. This attraction is one of the places to visit, which are the remnants of mining activity in this area.

Zloty Stok Gold Mine sometimes it is called the "Lower Silesian Eldorado" due to its long history associated with gold mining. The first mention of mining in this area dates back to the 13th century. Nevertheless, mining activity was probably carried out in the local area much earlier. The city reached its peak mining period in the 16th century, when annually from approx. 60 kg to as much as 140 kg of pure gold was mined, which accounted for 8% of the entire extraction of this metal in Europe.

At the turn of the 17th and 18th century deposits of arsenic ore were also discovered in these areas, which started the production of arsenic. The mine was active until its closure in 1961. Mining activity in this area has left many mining excavations, including 190 adits, 20 steelworks and about 320 km of galleries, of which 20 km are currently open to the public. The trail has been open to visitors since 1996 Zloty Stok Gold Mine is a 1.5-kilometer fragment of the pavement connecting the "Gertruda" and "Czarna" adits.

Zloty Stok Gold Mine is open for sightseeing from Monday to Sunday from 9:15 to 17:30. The entrance fee is PLN 40 for a normal ticket and PLN 32 for a reduced ticket. Children under 4 have free admission. The ticket also entitles you to enter the nearby Museum of Minerals and the Chamber of Mining. The mine's offer also includes a combined ticket to the surrounding attractions - the Medieval Mining Settlement and the Security Adit for PLN 70 - a normal ticket and PLN 51 - a reduced ticket. It is worth preparing for sightseeing by taking warm clothes with you, because the temperature in the underground is 7 ° C.

Złoty Stok is famous for its post-mining attractions, so when visiting the Gold Mine, it is also worth visiting the Protection Adit or the Medieval Mining Settlement, which shows the long history of gold mining in Złoty Stok.
