History of Karpacz
People settled here permanently around the 11th century. Originally, it was a settlement for gold and mineral prospectors. However, these areas remained wild and sparsely populated for quite a long time. Until the beginning of the 17th century, there were only 20 permanently inhabited houses in the settlement. But the mountainous location and inaccessible terrain turned out to be a great asset for people seeking shelter from the wars that were raging at that time. And so a hundred years later there were already 59 houses here.
Events Karpacz and the surrounding area?
A breakthrough event in the history of Karpacz turned out to be the construction of the chapel of St. Lawrence on Śnieżka. It was completed and dedicated on August 10, 1681. Since then, pilgrimage tourism began to develop. The old Silesian Road, used by pilgrims, led from Cieplice through Sosnówka and Karpacz to Śnieżka and further to the Czech Republic.
Another very important date in the history of Karpacz is July 28, 1844. It was then that a wooden church was imported from Norway, today known as Wang church, which not only served the faithful of the Protestant denomination, but also enriched the local landscape and became another local attraction.
The railway greatly facilitated tourist traffic and accelerated development Karpacz. It was faster to get here not only from Wrocław, but also from Berlin and even further regions of Europe. The 19th and 20th centuries, on the other hand, saw the development of construction, closely related to the service of tourist traffic. The hostels, hotels, summer villas, boarding houses, inns and restaurants that were built at that time have largely survived to this day. And still, after the necessary extensions or modernizations, they serve tourists, and at the same time, thanks to their historic character, they create a unique atmosphere of the town.
Karpacz by bike
Karpacz can boast of many interesting cycling routes. Let's just remember that a large part of the area near Karpacz is the Karkonosze National Park - there we have to stick to the marked paths.
Cyclo routes in the Karpacz region have different lengths - for the least advanced or for tourists with children about 10 km, more experienced cyclists can choose routes of several meters or a little over 20 km. Veterans of bicycle trails have really long stretches at their disposal, especially since you can combine a bicycle trip with a trip to the Czech Republic. Carpathian bike is most suitable.
So where to go by bike in Karpacz? For example, to the Shelter on the Łomniczka River. You can go towards Sosnówka, to Mysłakowice. Or through Grabowiec and the Chapel of St. Anna to Tendon. Therefore, you should leave your bike at Luční bouda and continue on foot. The road will take us about 1.5 hours. The only way to ride a bike to Śnieżka is to sign up for one of the uphill rallies organized from time to time.
