Ponds in Podgórze - history
Ponds Podgorzynskie founded in the 15th century by monks, Cistercians from Cieplice. They were the hosts of this place until the 18th century. Then the ponds were owned by the Schaffgotschs, one of the most important aristocratic families in Silesia. After the extension, which took place during their reign, Stawy Podgórzyńskie was the largest complex of breeding ponds in this area. In addition, these were the highest ponds in all of Europe. At that time, they had as many as 67 tanks.
An important event for the development of these areas was the laying, in 1911, of a tram line through the dike separating the ponds from Teplic to Podgorzyn. This line operated until 1964. It was often used not only by residents, but also by patients, skiers and tourists. There were even plans for its further expansion. However, it was eventually replaced by bus transport.
Currently a complex Podgórzyńskie Ponds consists of 22 water reservoirs. It is private property.
