wobble is one of the most interesting mountain attractions located in Szklarska Poręba, and more specifically on the south-eastern slopes of Wysoki Grzbiet. It is a few meters high set of granite blocks, located at an altitude of 565 m above sea level
It is intriguing that the highest heptagonal stone is supported in only two places. Due to this arrangement, it can only be rocked by muscle power. Hence its name. The possibility of rocking the stone in this way is all the more remarkable as it weighs as much as 15 tons. The simplest and most effective method to move a rock is to rock it from below. In the vicinity of Chybotek there are several smaller formations of a similar appearance.
The Story of Wobbling
wobble is shrouded in legend. Some of the legends say that the rock is supposed to block the mysterious entrance to a nearby cave, where extremely valuable treasures have been stored. It is mentioned that the stone belonged to the Spirit of the Mountains of the Karkonosze Mountains, who had ruled in this region for centuries. Other legends tell of the existence of a secret corridor leading from Chybotek to the Evening Castle, a special place for Walloons.
wobble formerly also called Zuckerschale from German, because it looked a bit like a sugar bowl. It was also said that the stone was arranged in this way by the Devil himself. It was extremely popular already in the 19th century, and in 1933 it was recognized as a monument of inanimate nature.
How to get to Chybotek rock?
The easiest and at the same time the shortest trail leading to the rock is the one leading from Szklarska Poręba to the House of Wlastimil Hofman. The route is only 600 meters long and it takes about 10 minutes to complete it.
You can also get to Chybotek along the black trail leading from Szklarki waterfall. Then go to the blue trail. This way it will take us about 15 minutes to enter.
If you want to extend your journey, it is worth using the route leading from the Church of St. Our Lady of the Rosary near Orla Skała in Szklarska Poręba Dolna. This option is about 30 minutes of pleasant walking. There is also a car park near the church.
